Here is another card that I made last night for the Hero Arts September challenge. I used Twinkling H2O’s for the background of the main image. The colors that I used are: yellow rose 26376, lemon grass 26376, ruby read 26379, and apple blossom26376. This was the first time that I used this product and I was extremely happy with it. I wanted the background to have autumn colors and I thought that a leafless tress would be perfect for this. I usually don’t make clean and simple cards, but this time I wanted to do something different.
To make the card I cut the top panel 2”x4 ¼” and I cut the scallop edge 1 1/2x4 ¼” and adhered it to the top panel. I tied ribbon around the scallop piece and put a border on the image panel and placed the top part of the image under the scallop edge. The measurement is 2 ¾”x3 ½” for the stamped image and the mat around the stamped image is 3” x 3 ¾”. The stamp is a Hero Arts Stamp—Scroll Tree F4927.

This looks like a quick card, but for me it took me a few hours to get it the way that I wanted it to look. I did 4 stamped images using the Twinkling H2O’s before I was satisfied with the end results. I was having a difficult time achieving the fall colors that I wanted. I am happy with the way that this card turned out and I would of kept on playing with the Twinkling H2O’s until I got it looking the way that I wanted it to.

A Warm Hello

This is a quick card that I made for the Hero Arts Challenge. I used Hero Arts stamp CL Silhouette Garden AR166 (this stamp was especially made for Archivers) for my main image and the sentiment comes from Hero Arts Friendly Greetings LL692. (I think that LL692 is discontinued.)
I stamped the main image in a very light ink (Sahara Sand—Stampin Up) and then I took two colored pencils and colored in the image. I used a dominant color and a lighter color to color in my image—dark orange and a very pale orange and alternated colors and when I got the results that I wanted I outlined the image in a black (very fine) marker (.0005). Then I went over the image again with a white crayon so that I could resist the background with distress ink. The last thing that I did was to spray the image with a mixture of perfect pearls and water and then after it dried, I stamped the sentiment in Van Dyke Brown dye ink.

The distress inks that I used are: shabby shutters and tumbled glass.

Fall Cards

It has been about a week since I posted any cards. This past weekend was super busy and I didn't have much of a chance to make many cards. On Sunday evening, I finally found the time to make a few cards for the Hero Arts challenge. My first card is an inspiration on Barb’s card that was featured on Hero Arts on Monday, September 20th. I used the same inks and the same design, but used different stamps, ribbon, and paper. I used perfect pearls on the cut out leaves, but it is hard to see on camera. Stamps used for this card are: Woodland Oak Leaves E3181 (see note), Real Leaves CL457 and Essential Messages CL371.


For this card the following stamps were used: K5431 and raindrop background S5101. I colored the flower with Copic markers and distressed the background with wild honey and with a small amount of rusty hinge. I also used Worn lipstick, wild honey, and scattered straw destressing ink. For this next card I used the following Stamps: Birthday Messages CL139, Engraved Fruit CL433, Antique Flower Background S5264 and Large Plaid Pattern S5447. The pears were stamped on a 3 x 3 ¼-inch panel with bundled sage distress ink and then masked so that I could distress the background in wild honey and rusty hinge distress ink. I then roughed up the edges of the paper and distressed with walnut stain ink.
For the pumpkin card I used the following stamps: traditional Pumpkin F5270, Tall Pumpkin G5269, Large Plaid Pattern S5447 and Birthday Messages CL139. The pumpkins were colored with Copic markers and the background was distressed in Broken China ink. The scalloped panel was stamped with the large plaid pattern stamp and embossed with white embossing powder.

Note: Woodland Oak Leaves E3181 I think is discontinued. All the stamps are Hero Arts.

A Card for A Hero

Hello Everyone

I made this card last evening for the current hero arts challenge and also to include it with my cards (for “any Hero” along with a note of encouragement) that I will be mailing today to the Operation Write Home organization.

I stamped the apples in black Memento ink onto a 3 x 3-inch piece of confetti cardstock Stampin Up (I stamped one apple and then masked it so that it looked like one apple was in back.) Then I made a mask to cover both apples so that I could distress and stamp the background. The background was masked so that I could distress the apples with barn door, dried marigold and wild honey distress inks. The image was placed on a 3 ¼ x 3 ¼-inch piece of night of navy cardstock and then placed on top of a 1 ½ x 5 ½ piece of Really Rust Cardstock (cardstock by Stampin Up!) I cut a 4 ¼ x 5 ½-inch piece of plaid pattern paper to cover the front of the card base. I added ribbon to the long panel and then put it all together.

Any Hero Card

This was a fun card to make and I enjoyed every minute making this card and was lost in my work and the time slipped by very quickly. When I was finished creating, there was a big mess on my desk. But, I guess that is the fun part about creating.

My inspiration came from this picture of a piece of fabric that I saw at Wal Mart. It is not the best picture that I have ever taken, but I wanted to focus on the apples as my main inspiration.

Hello Everyone!!

I made this card last evening and I am not really sure if I like it or not. I did not intend for the colors to come out so dark. Even though I am not 100% happy with this card, I am still entering it in the Hero Arts Challenge for September. (The camera makes this card look lighter in color.) I distress white paper with Wild Honey, Barn Door, Walnut Stain, and Rustic Hinge. Then I stamped with the Design Block Thank You (S5026) in Rustic Hinge distress ink and then stamped the Real Leaves (CL457) stamp set in Walnut Stain distress ink. I roughed up the edges of the image and applied walnut stain ink to the roughed up edges with my blending tool. I added a ribbon and attached the stamped image to a 4 ¼ x 5 ½ mat that was stamped with Walnut stain ink using the Designer Wood Grain stamp (S5208). The last step was to attach the image to an egg shell color card base.

Note: I think that the Thank You stamp (S5026) could be discontinued because I could not find it on the Hero Arts site.

Thanksgiving Bag

Hello Everyone!!

I was inspired by yesterdays (9/8/2010) Hero Arts video that showed how to make a small bag using felt. I didn’t have any felt, so I thought that I would use unbleached muslin and line the bag with some Fall themed orange colored fabric. I cut 5 squares from muslin and 5 squares from orange fabric (lining) each 4 ¼-inch square. Then I stamped 4 of the muslin squares with images from the So Thankful Stamp Set CL466 using Tuxedo Back Memento Ink. When the stamping was completed, I colored in the images with fabric crayons and heat set the ink and crayon. I sew each section on my sewing machine with orange thread using a zigzag stitch. I didn’t want a clean look, so I frayed the edges of the bag and sewed on ribbon handles and attached buttons. The buttons originally were white, but I colored them with a Sunset Orange Bic Mark-It permanent non-toxic marker.

This little bag is the perfect size to hold 4 x 4-inch note paper. When I started making this bag, I didn’t know what I would use it for or who I would give it to. Then I saw my multi colored note pad cube sitting on my desk and I thought that this bag would be a perfect place for that paper. So, it sits on my desk holding the note paper.

Please Note: The Front of the Bag is: Happy Thanksgiving and 4 pumpkins, both sides of the bag each has a turkey and the back of the bag is the pilgrim girl and boy.

Gift Bag for A Gift

Hello Everyone!!

Here is a gift bag that I made to put my friend’s birthday gift in. I also made and attached a small gift tag. Inside the bag is a set of cards that I made a few weeks ago. I also included a birthday card that I made last week. I have entered this gift bag in the September challenge over at hero arts. Everything for her gift is sewing related because she loves to sew.


I took a 9 x 12-inch white envelope and scored 1½-inches on two of the long sides and scored 1½-inches on the bottom. I cut ¾-inch off from the top part of the envelope to create the opening. I distressed the front and back of the envelope in Antique Linen, Scattered Straw, and Spun Sugar distress inks. Then I randomly stamped spools of thread and buttons all over the envelope with Rusty Hinges distress ink. I stamped extra buttons on yellow textured cardstock and attached them to the stamped buttons on the gift bag. I did the same with the gift tag, but used a pin cushion in place of the buttons.
