Flower Pot Card

I received some very bright and bold colored cardstock yesterday from my Daughter, who lives in Ohio. She saw a few of my cards on my blog where I used bold and bright colors. (Bold and bright is not my usual style.) I had sent her some Archiver's coupons a few weeks ago and one of the coupons was for 10 free sheets of 8 1/2 x/11-inch cardstock. So, I asked her is she would pick up these sheets of paper for me. She was at Archiver's a few days ago and she got me various colors that are bold and bright. This is what she told me in her note when I received my paper, "I figured I'd get some colors that were bold and bright.... so you can make some more cards". Anyway, I wanted to make a flower pot card and the flower pot is from one of the pieces of the cardstock that my daughter sent to me. I am certain that she wants to see more bold colors in the cards that I make. It was fun making this card and I enjoyed every minute. Instead of using punches like the directions say to do, I stamped flowers on pattern cardstock and then cut them out. I did the same for the leaves. Everything on this card is hand cut. The stamps that I used are: Hero Arts; Artistic Borders CL322, Cleardesign Birthday Messages CL139, Big and Small Flowers CL374 (used the leaf from this set), and Box Plaid S5369. I went to splitcoast stampers for the directions for this card. I went here to find the tutorial. Thanks for stopping buy.

Mojo Monday Challenge #140

This is the card that I created for the Mojo Monday Challenge (week 140). The camera does not do justice to the colors that I used. The color that looks yellow is actually a sage color green. The blue colors in the picture are actually a teal color. The stamps that I used are Hero Arts. ClearDesign: Scattered Leaves CL298, Wavy Leaf Pattern S5050, ClearDesign Birthday Messages CL139. Thanks for stopping by.

Cook Up A Card Recipe Challenge: May Recipe

This is the card that I created for the Cook Up A Card Recipe Challenge for May. It has taken me four days to finally decide how I was going to put this card together. There is no sketch to work with, all you have to do is to follow one rule: you must use three leaves, two flowers, and one bird. This is the recipe that must be followed. You can arrange your card any way that you like but it must contain the three elements that is mentioned. When The first thing that I did was to find a sketch so that I would have an idea how I wanted my card to look. The background paper came from Sassafras Monstrosity Wee bundle collection. To make the pocket, I cut it out from white cardstock and covered it heavily in China Blue distress ink. Then I sewed 1/4-inch on four sides of the pocket in orange thread. The paper for the flower was inked with Spiced Marmelade distress ink. Then I stamped it in versa mark ink and embossed with a navy blue embossing powder. I did the leaves the same way only used a teal color embossing powder. The Bird on the pocket was embossed in white embossing powder. I assembled the pocket and placed it on the card with pop dots. The stamps that I used are as follows: Big and Small Flowers CL374, Decorative Birds LP032, and Small Greetings LL662. (Stamps are Hero Arts.)

Mojo Monday Challenge #139

This is my version for the Mojo Monday (139) Challenge for this week. The stamps that I used are all from Hero Arts. The following stamps used in this project are: Small Liquid Amber E2252 (leaf), Old Letter Writing (S4878), and Cleardesign: Cupcakes (CL153--Happy Birthday). I destressed the main image with tea dye destressing ink and then I stamped the leaf in olive archival ink by Ranger. Then I masked the leaf and stamped over the masked image with the old letter writing stamp in vandyke brown (also by Ranger). Instead of using a ribbon on the middle of the card, I took a scrap piece of muslin fabric and stained it with bundled sage destress ink and frayed the edges. This was a fun sketch to work with and I had a very good time creating this project. Thanks for looking.

Caardvarks Challenge (May)

This is my version for the current challenge that is going on at Caardvarks. I had a difficult time choosing colors and types of paper for this card. I have spent the last two days thinking of the colors that I wanted for this particular card. I tried various colors on paper and didn't like the results. So, I finally came up with brown and green. There is some Broken China in the card, but it is hard to see. This card was easy once I figured out the colors and the paper that I wanted. Thanks for stopping by.

Around the World Challenge #3 -- Mexico

This is my version of this weeks challenge that is happening at Vicky's blog. Using these particular colors together is something that I would not normally do. Using bold and bright colors usually take me a little out of my comfort zone. I actually had fun creating this card and I felt as though that I was in my own little world and I did not have a care in the world. I was totally comfortable and relaxed making this card. I studied the picture a little to see what I could pull from it and I noticed that the girl in the picture has red and yellow flowers in her hair and that was an inspiration to have flowers
for the main point of the card. I felt that the flowers that I chose were perfect for red and yellow. The stamps that I used are Hero Arts: Cleardesign Stamp A Garden CL379, Flourish Background CG119, Dots and Flowers S5213, and Cleardesign Birthday messages CL139. I stamped the scalled part of the card with the dots and flowers stamp in mustard seed distress ink as I wanted yellow to show up on the red paper, but it turned out more tan than yellow. (The dots and flowers image shows up better in real life.)
Thanks for stopping by.

Mojo Monday Challenge 138

This is my version for the Mojo Monday (week 138) challenge. I stamped the background matt (blue) and the brown strips of paper in versa mark ink with the Design block Tree stamp (S5037). This is how I did the section with the fern leaf. I stamped the fern with the woodgrain stamp in clear ink. I let it dry and then rubbed antique linen distress ink over it. Next I used my distressing tool and went over the piece of paper in weathered wood distress ink and heated it with the heat gun so that it would dry faster. Then I stamped the leaf image, but before I actually stamped it unto the paper I stamped off some of the ink on scratch paper. Then I went over it again with antique linen ink and the last thing that I did to this image is to stamp over the whole piece with the grid pattern stamp (S5216). I also stamped off before I stamped it on the piece and use van dyke brown ink by ranger. For the woodgrain portion of the card, I stamped with the woodgrain stamp using clear versa mark ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. When that cooled down, I distressed over it with weathered wood distressing ink. After completion of this, all I had to do was put the card together. This is a fathers day card for one of my son's-in-law and the sentiment "Happy Father's Day" was stamped on the inside of the card with Hero Arts Stamp C140. (All the stamps used are Hero Arts)

Clips n Cuts Around the World Challenge #2

I made this card for the Around the world challenge that is being hosted by Vicky over at Clips-n-Cuts Blog. The Holland picture of the tulips inspired me to make this Birthday Card with the tulips and butterflies. I thought that it would be fun to submit this card. The stamps that I used are all Hero Arts and are the following: Clear Design Birthday Messages CL139, ClearDesign T CL020, Swirly Frame S5179, and CL Mi Casa (6x4) CL389 ( I used the butterfly from the Mi Casa Stamp set.) First, I stamped the frame in clear embossing ink and sprinkled clear embossing powder over it and heat set it. I used Wild Honey distress ink for the resist technique. On a seperate sheet of paper, I stamped the tulips and the butterflies and colored them with copic markers. Then I sponged peeled paint distress ink for the grass and sponged broken china ink and blended in faded jeans distress ink. Then when that was completed, I put the card together. It was a lot of fun doing this card.

Priceless

Yesterday (Saturday, May 1) was National Scrapbooking day and Hero Arts was hosting a scrapbooking challenge over on their Flickr group. All that was required was to make and submit as many scrapbook pages as desired to the Hero Arts Flickr group pool. The challenge was from Saturday, May 1 to Sunday May 2 (actually ends on Sunday, May 2 11:59 pm PST).
I wanted to make at least 5 layouts, but that didn't happen. So, instead I finished and submitted one layout to the Hero Arts Flickr group. Oh well, one was better than nothing. It actually took me longer than planned to make this layout of Alex. It took me at least 3 to 4 hours just to plan out how I wanted it to look. After I had everything planned out, I had to set everything aside and get back to it later. I finally got back to my layout this afternoon and finished putting everything together earlier this evening. It was fun planning and assembling everything and it gave me a sense of accomplishment. I had at least 12 pictures of Alex printed out and this was a good opportunity to use some of those pictures in this layout. I picked frogs (the frog stamp set from hero arts -- Flower Frog F5294) for the embellishments because my daughter Michelle (Alex's Mom) has a few frog outfits for him and therefore Frogs are a perfect embellishment for this page.

The first prize is a selection of Cling Stamps.

The Second prize is a selection of woodblock stamps.
